Rise of the machines

As mentioned, in 1915, the Carrier Corp was founded. They began mass producing Air Conditioning units to cool buildings. Their popularity skyrocketed to the point where 80% of US homes built in 2011 had air conditioning. This is not without it's problems. Air conditioning technology has developed so much that in 1984, a cyborg derived from air conditioning technology came back in time to kill the only human who could win the impending, future war between humans and machines. It was a bloody battle, but Linda Hamilton won in the end. This is why Hamilton Beach appliances make all sorts of gadgets for the kitchen, but not refrigerators.

Really, the problems with the rise in air conditioning are numerous. Air conditioning uses a fair amount of energy. Both homes and automobiles use air conditioning, so the tax on Earth's resources can be high. In addition, there are some health issues related to air conditioner use in the home. While Atlanta GA AC units can be used to filter air and provide a clean, hypoallergenic atmosphere, there are also downsides. Decreasing humidity in the home can result in dry skin, as well as dehydration. In addition, being in an air conditioned room and not having access to a free supply of fresh oxygen can lower immunity. This can also result in high blood pressure and heart rate.

As with most human invention, air conditioning has its benefits and drawbacks, but is an important marker in the evolution of human development.
