Almost Time To Check Out The Old Heater

Up in the Boston region, winter is rapidly approaching. The Pats are already 2-0 to start the season (barely - squeaking out 2 close ones) and the Sox are about to start the playoffs. As we all know, no system plays a bigger role in your home than your heating system, strictly for comfort reasons. You need to make sure you contact your Worcester MA air conditioning contractor if you have any questions regarding your heater. If you have an older heater they will be able to help show you newer cost effective high efficient heating solutions including furnaces, boilers, and heat pumps. Don't have that first freezing night come and you haven't prepared for it by not checking the status of your heater!

Air Conditioning - Tips On Saving Some Bills

The most important thing about saving some money this summer and fall regarding your air conditioning unit is keeping your unit running at its top performance. Here are some tips you can do on your own to keep the unit working as efficiently as possible while saving you money.
- Air filters are key. They have to be clean - if not more energy will be used because there isn't a clear flow through the filter. Check them every 60-90 days to replace.
- The button on your thermostat should be set to On and not Auto. This will keep the fan running nonstop instead of shutting on and off again which will end up causing more energy to be used.
- On the outside unit make sure to wash the condenser coil once a year. A dirty condenser coil will run hot.
If you have any questions about this please call your local Port Orange FL air conditioning experts to learn more.

Unsafe Air Conditioning Installations?

We were cruising down the road the other day when we stumbled upon this situation:

My man! What the hell is this guy thinking? We were on a road over looking down into a park which happened to have an apartment building right next to us. This was pretty high up! Guy's got a strong pair of you know what. I cannot believe he was trying to install the unit this way just casually sitting there with what appears to be a drink on the ledge as well taking his sweet time. I would have jumped back into that window so fast. Advice from someone who is scared to death of heights - call your local air conditioning expert immediately if you ever find yourself in this situation!

No... THIS Is The Hottest Summer Ever

Every summer I hear the same thing - this is the hottest summer ever! Okay sure, but this time I'm serious. It was unbelievably hot yesterday to the point where you start sweating the second your face hits the sun. I was walking down the street and saw this man cruising by me:

Now this man is doing it right! Just two 100 pound ice blocks both in the front and the back. I may have to start doing that when I go for a walk. Create some little outfit with a tray out front and the back with blocks of ice on it. On a more serious note - if your air conditioning unit is not capable of blowing cold air or your house is still too warm with all the cold air blowing out - call the air conditioning experts immediately! Soon you will regret when the real heat of the summer comes.

Rise of the machines

As mentioned, in 1915, the Carrier Corp was founded. They began mass producing Air Conditioning units to cool buildings. Their popularity skyrocketed to the point where 80% of US homes built in 2011 had air conditioning. This is not without it's problems. Air conditioning technology has developed so much that in 1984, a cyborg derived from air conditioning technology came back in time to kill the only human who could win the impending, future war between humans and machines. It was a bloody battle, but Linda Hamilton won in the end. This is why Hamilton Beach appliances make all sorts of gadgets for the kitchen, but not refrigerators.

Really, the problems with the rise in air conditioning are numerous. Air conditioning uses a fair amount of energy. Both homes and automobiles use air conditioning, so the tax on Earth's resources can be high. In addition, there are some health issues related to air conditioner use in the home. While Atlanta GA AC units can be used to filter air and provide a clean, hypoallergenic atmosphere, there are also downsides. Decreasing humidity in the home can result in dry skin, as well as dehydration. In addition, being in an air conditioned room and not having access to a free supply of fresh oxygen can lower immunity. This can also result in high blood pressure and heart rate.

As with most human invention, air conditioning has its benefits and drawbacks, but is an important marker in the evolution of human development.

Air Conditioning in the US

Air Conditioning first arrived in the US on the Pinta with Christopher Columbus in 1492. The Santa Maria had a Ford Gremlin since it was the largest of the boats and the only that could carry it. The Nina had Bono.

Modern Air Conditioning as we know it today was actually invented in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier. Carrier got together with several engineers to start the first air conditioning manufacturing company in 1915. That company was called Carrier Engineering Corporation and is today known as Facebook. No wait, it's called The Carrier Corporation.

Over the next 98 years, that one invention has had a huge impact on shaping not only the US, but the world over. The introduction of this invention spurred the migration of Americans to the sun belt. Suddenly, sweltering parts of the country were now livable. Businesses in the region flourished, retirees could flee the colder climates to the warm Palm Beach and College students could finally make fools of themselves during Spring break in Ft. Lauderdale. These are just a few of the ways that AC has made everyone's lives better.

A Little More Depth

So how does air conditioning work? You flip the switch, and that joint starts cooooolin.

Really, there are two methods to modifying air temperature. One is known as a refrigeration cycle. Using the refrigeration cycle, heat is moved from one place, called the heat source, to another place, called the heat sink. This method can most often be found in refrigerators and freezers. In these cases, the heat source is the interior of the refrigerator or freezer. The heat sink is the area outside of the refrigerator. You'll tend to notice that your refrigerator gives off heat, as most appliances do. That heat is not simply created as a by-product of the machine performing work, it is actually heat from the interior of the freezer. There are four main types of refrigeration cycles, listed below, which I'll explain in detail in subsequent posts. I know you can't wait.

4 Types of Refrigeration Cycles
1. Vapour Compression Cycle
2. Vapour Absorption Cycle
3. Gas Cycle
4.  Stirling Cycle

The second method of conditioning air is evaporation. This is the type of air conditioning that is most often found in buildings and automobiles. This is also the method that the human body uses to cool itself, thus the pit stains on your shirt that your girlfriend complains about. Changing water from a liquid state to a gas state, requires energy in the form of heat. So when liquid water is turned into its gaseous state, it draws heat with it, thereby cooling the air. You'll notice that when you stand directly in front of the AC vent, and everyone in the room is complaining that you're hogging the AC, that you may feel slightly damp. That's the moisture coming from the AC unit. Claro? Cool. Until next time, try to contain your excitement anticipating my next post!
