Why is Hot Air Coming from My Air Conditioner?

When it’s hot outside, the best thing you can do is be in a nice, cold, air conditioned room. So what happens when you turn on your air conditioner and it starts to blow hot air? How did this happen? Here are a few possible explanations.

The Outside Unit Isn't Getting Power
If the indoor part of your air conditioning system is running and the outdoor unit isn't, then the vents will blow out warm air. The power to the outdoor unit may be cut off by a tripped circuit breaker. If you find that the circuit breaker always trips when using your air conditioning, then you will have to get your AC system checked by a professional.

Frozen Evaporator Coil
This topic was touched upon previously when discussing air filters. However, there is another way for this coil to freeze. If you set your air conditioner to the maximum setting on a hot and humid day, the coil can drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity from your home condenses on the coil and freezes. Keep your thermostat at around 72 degrees F in order to avoid this problem.
