Air Conditioning Safety Tips

The weather still hasn't cooled off, and our AC units haven't gotten a break. Hopefully your air conditioning system has been working fine all summer. If you haven't been so lucky and need some work done, it's very important to be safe when working on your air conditioning. Here are some tips to keep you and your family safe.
  •  Power down. Always make sure to completely turn off all power to your HVAC unit before you begin any maintenance. This will help protect you from injury, and will also protect your system from any type of electrical shock. It is important to wait at least 5 minutes before turning an air conditioner back on after turning it off to reduce stress on the motor.
  • ·         Protect your skin. It is important to avoid direct contact with the chemical refrigerant used in your cooling system. To avoid injury while servicing your system, wear protective clothing, eyewear, and gloves.
  • Clean your filters. The filters of your HVAC unit play a vital role in protecting the air quality inside your home, and should always be clear of dust and dirt. Poor indoor air quality is a serious safety concern, as it may lead to respiratory issues and a variety of other illnesses.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact an air conditioning contractor in Carefree AZ for help.

  1. I definitely agree that it's important to clean out your filters. This can cause real problems if you have seasonal allergies, or any allergies, really. I've always found that having an extra filter on hand is good, too, for when the season starts to use A/C. Or heat. Good post, learned a lot here.
