October is the perfect time to get your heating system serviced. HVAC systems need maintenance, no matter how old they are or how well you feel yours has been maintained. Your system may have been running great when you shut it off in March and it may fire up fine when you test it out, but don't wait for a problem before you consider a visit from a heating and air professional.
Here are some simple reasons why early maintenance is always best.
- When something goes wrong with your heating system, other heating systems are struggling as well. The HVAC guys are busy and it's unlikely they're going to get to your house on that day or maybe even the next in the middle of winter.
- While you're waiting for service, you and your family will be cold. Some are more resilient than others, but if you have elderly, young children or pets, this could be a real concern. Will this mean a nasty cold for everyone?
- Perhaps your system won't fail or shut down, but it will appear to you that it's running fine for weeks. Meanwhile, because no one has looked at it, it's been getting ready to a break down, the motor burning up and working harder. You won't know until your bill comes and your system is about to call it quits.
- Almost any issue is going to mean more money. The expense of repair or replacement is just the beginning. Will you have to move your family to a hotel because of the temperatures? Will you have to purchase temporary electric heaters and pay to run them? How much work will you miss meeting repairmen?
