Tips for Keeping your Home Cool

While the weather is cooling off in most parts of the country, we are still using our air conditioning in Weston FL. The temperature can be a little unpredictable this time of year. One week its chilly and the next week is in the 80s and 90s. Here are some tips to keep your house cool without having your air conditioning as much.

  • Keep sunlight out. During the daytime hours, try to keep your windows closed and covered. This will not only help to keep warm air out, but it will also prevent direct sunlight from heating up your home.
  •          Avoid the stove. Stove-top cooking and oven baking generate a lot of heat. Avoid this extra heat by using your microwave and swapping out some hot meals for cold sandwiches or salads.

  • Utilize your ceiling fan. Your ceiling fan can help amplify the effects of your AC by circulating cool air. This way, you will be able to keep your home cool without making any major adjustments to the thermostat. In the summer months, make sure that your fan is rotating counter-clockwise, so that any cool air will be pushed downward.
